yoga during pregnancy?

October 30, 2009

I don’t have any prenatal yoga classes in my area, so i have begun a yoga class once or twice a week. I told my teacher that I am about 5 mos pregnant but she doesn’t seem very knowlegable about what poses are best or which to avoid during pregnancy. If any one has info I would appreciate it. I am still learning the names of the poses, so even a good website with pictures of what I can do would be great! Thanks!

What’s a good Prenatal Workout and/or Yoga DVD?

October 30, 2009

I like the Crunch Yoga Mumma ( I think that’s what it’s called). I know for sure it’s Crunch though.
The poses are acailable in 3 stages of fit levels or what trimester you’re in.
I also like how they’re not telling me how womanly I am, jow fufilling my destiny blah blah blah.
It’s a good one.

October 30, 2009

I’ve found a lot of good yoga videos online for pregnancy workout, but I really want something that gets me sweating. I’ve been overindulging for the past couple of days so I really want to get a good workout. Anyone know of any good exercise routines while pregnant? Im only 8 weeks so not too far along yet, but I still want it to be safe. Thanks. Also if you know any really good ones on youtube, that would be best

did you find yoga beneficial during your pregnancy?

October 30, 2009

HI, I am 24 wks pregnant with my second child…with my first pregnancy I didn’t do any exercise but walking a lot, and I had a TON of back pain, so I decided to order this "pregnancy yoga" DVD (since I dont live near a gym that offers classes) and it says on the dvd that it is beneficial to prevent excess weight gain, to help ease in labour and delivery and help get your body back sooner after baby. I have done the 30 min dvd a few times, and I feel all nice and stretched after, and I did work up a little sweat, but I am just wondering if it really does what it says! Has any of you pregnant Mom’s done Yoga through your pregnancy, and do you feel it helped you?? Just curious! Also did you do it EVERYday, or every other?? THANKS!

I did yoga before and during my last pregnancy. I think it definitely helped ease my discomfort and make me more flexible and limber, it strengthened my core muscles and improved my terrible pregnancy posture. :) I also found the focusing on breathing and the meditative aspects to be very beneficial, and it helped during labor, which I managed to do naturally which I had never done with my previous pregnancies. I tried to do it everyday if I could, at least do a couple of poses if not a full session.

Yoga whilst pregnant?

October 30, 2009

Hi everyone.. Just wondering if anyone is currently or previously participated in Pre-natal Yoga? I am keen on joining but would like to find out for others what they gained from this class??
Or if you have any other relaxation ideas that assist with birthing?

they have a program at the maternity hospital i went to. not "called" yoga but similar poses etc.
i went each week from 32-41 and loved it. i don’t know if it helped through the labour but i know it was a goal for me each week to know i was still moving freely even though i was getting bigger. the posture techniques were great, as you get bigger its good to get advise on how to improve your stance so you don’t get so sore.
for relaxation i did positive affirmations ( for the baby and for me) while soaking in a warm bath each night ( check with your doc) and did the hypnobirthing cd.
